Folly was one of the Tillettes and she was a most wonderful gift from her breeder, Wendy. This super-pretty and super-smart little whippet was born on my Mother's birthday and was from a breeding my Mom would have most heartily approved of, she being a huge Sully and Tilly fan. So when I saw the baby pictures I knew I had to have her!
Folly gave us a lot of excitement as she grew up, so much so that sometimes it was doubted that she would ever make it to maturity. Her combination of running hell-bent-for-leather and not always looking where she was going resulted in lots of large and small cuts and punctures, several dislocated and blown toes, and many new gray hairs for her owner. She banged up her rear foot pretty badly running on her "track" in the back yard and that foot was wholly sound. Sadly, she detached several tendons in that foot lure coursing and now has a gnarly "flat foot" & was sadly retired from all running sports in the summer of 2018.
She enjoyed racing in CWA & maintained her high C grade throughout her career, even though she seemed to always be either in season for our local race meets or just coming in or out. In the show ring, even with her gnarly boo-boo foot and the fact that we were in the hotbed of strong competition that was mid-aughts California, Folly was awarded four points. She presented us with nine beautiful pups on July 2, 2015. Folly was such an incredible mother, but we decided to go out on a high note & she was spayed after this litter. She was sadly retired from racing & coursing when she finshed what she started as a pup & detached the ligament across the top of her foot, resulting in a twisted foot that was not sound. "Hoppy", as she was known around the house, could run or trot without a hop, but she could still go on her hikes & chase squirrels in the yard just fine.
After many years of passing cardiac exams, Folly was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Disease when she was ten. She did well and had no signs until June of 2022, when she went into congestive heart failure. This was well managed with medication, but Folly passed away quietly in her sleep on July 22, 2022, probably of a cardiac embolism. We will miss our best girl, the most perfect whippet ever!
