DC Milescross Double Indemnity, SC, CD - "Demi"
(Ch. Broadstrider's By George, ROMX X Locar's Creme De Cocao, JC)
4/6/1993 - 8/8/2001
Breeder: Guin Borstel
Owners: Wendy J Gay & Guin Borstel
Regarded by many as one of the more beautiful whippet bitches of the last twenty-five years, Demi was the flagship champion for the Milescross Whippets. With her long neck, melting expression, and striking black brindle coloration, she was born gorgeous and only grew more beautiful with maturity. Wendy was smart enough to snap up little Demi at ten weeks of age, when I realized I could only keep one of Julia's puppies. In Wendy and Rodney's home, Demi's natural talents were allowed to blossom and she was able to accomplish much in many fields of endeavor. Most importantly, she was allowed to be queen of the manor, guardian of the hearth, and lead huntress, jobs at which she excelled.

In addition to a whirlwind show career that included a Specialty Best Puppy in Show and a five-point major, Demi was a standout in the obedience ring, with a well-deserved C.D. (and a flying flip finish). She also was a star at the lure courses for Wendy, finishing her AKC Field Championship with multiple Best in Fields, two from the Veteran Class. Demi lived to run and always pulled off a thrilling performance, whether coursing, oval track or straight racing. Demi died of a brain tumor when she was eight years old. We miss her beauty, style, grace and fun.
Demi was the dam of two litters, both co-bred by Wendy Gay and carrying the Grand Prix prefix. Her first litter was by Ch. Grand Prix's Cisco Kid and her second was by Ch. Hamrya's Honey Beee, JC, ROMX. Most of Demi's puppies ended up in pet homes, so she only produced one show champion, but what a nice one she was - DC Grand Prix's Demitasse SC!

It was always an ambition of mine to double up on Julia through crossing Demi’s descendants with Amie’s. In 2006 I was able to realize a dream of 12 years standing and combine the beauty & type of Demi, through her grandson, Bryce, with the steady soundness & classic style of Amie, through her daughter Pie. The wonderful “Art Glass” litter was the result.
Demi was truly a beautiful whippet, mind, body and soul. I am sad we got to spend so little time with her. It is gratifying to occasionally see a glimmer of that special Demi look in the turn of a head, the arch of a neck, or the perk of an ear, in her many descendents at Grand Prix and Milescross.
